So in the last week, I've accomplished more than in the last two months! Yes, winter is slowly approaching.

So here I'm rip cutting some mahogany for end/neck blocks, kerfed linings and neck.



Home made kerfed linings. I know the kerfs aren't perfect, but they're not bad for the time it took me to make them. I just used the adjustable fence on a table saw and eye-balled it. They are very flexible though.

Two sides minus cutaway section (florentine)



I'm going for the 'seamless' joint at the tip. I think it's going to work. (keeping fingers crossed)



Tonight I made my rosette with flamed maple. (minus b/w/b lamination that will be added tomorrow). I don't like the look of the maple on the spruce (hardly any contrast) and I'm thinking I want to dye the rosette. I've stained a few pieces with aniline dyes (black, antique gold and red). What do you folks think?

The dust bag fell off your chop saw!!

I think it looks GREAT. Me, I would try the red dye, I think it would look cool. Although, while looking at I thought maybe a yellow to red burst on the maple rosette ring wouldbe cool to.

Looking forward to the progress. Will it be done when I am there the week of the November 4?

You know Shane, I was thinking the exact same thing about the burst. I even tried it out on a small piece of scrap but I soon find out that you have to be very, very sparing with the application of dies... Anyways, the end result was violent amalgamation of the three colors... I'll be trying again tomorrow...

I don't think I'll be done by the 4th (Great news by the way!!!), but I should be well along...

Hesh, yes this is to be a personal guitar as they will all be from now on...

I think I was lucky this time with the cutaway. We'll talk about it when I try it again...

Alain, that florentine is looking good, you got the right idea me thinks.

As far as the rosette goes, have you tried just an amber shellac? That might give you just enough contrast.

Here is my 3rd with a curly maple rosette with shellac on a cedar top. Take it for what it's worth.

personally, i'd opt for a combo of black and red dye cut pieces, hard to choose indeed. You could also keep it natural like Rod's and put black and red purfs in and outward?

Rod, that does look very very good... I will try some shellac. I think I have some orange left... I love that inner hard wood ring in the sound hole. I'll have to try that when I have the guts!

Sergio, my friend, I like that idea about the alternating black/red, but I want to save myself some problems... I've been having a really hard time just deciding what I want to do for a rosette... I'll be looking into those colored purfs though...

Have you considered Koa for a rosette ring? That also looks great with a spruce top and has color..

If you us the Maple, id vote for the gold

Steve, you're right! I had been idle for too long. Now that I've started building again, I can't wait to get back to it every day!

Too bad I have to work for a living. It just keep getting in the way of my shop time!

So far I'm leaning towards the gold or the black, or maybe a two-tone burst (gold-black, red-black or gold-red)... Maybe a mix of all the above?

Great looking start, amigo! Those cutaways take some courage...and a lot of woodworking skill. I never play past the seventh fret so I stay away from them

I vote for gold maple... these binding and purfling schemes are always tough choices for me as well...so many options!
